Caring for Jewellery in the UAE Heat

Heat, humidity and sunscreen are tough on jewellery. Five simple habits keep it shining.

Summer in the Emirates is hard on jewellery: heat speeds up tarnishing, and sunscreen and sweat dull the shine. A few habits go a long way.

1. Jewellery goes on last. Apply sunscreen, perfume and moisturiser first and let them dry.
2. Take it off for the pool and the beach. Chlorine and salt water are the fastest way to dull plating.
3. Wipe after every wear. A soft cloth removes oils before they settle.
4. Store it cool and separate. Never leave pieces in a hot car; keep each in its pouch.
5. Rotate your favourites. Giving pieces a rest helps finishes last longer.
